WORKERS' COMPENSATION
Workers’ compensation provides reasonable income, along with medical benefits to work-accident victims, or income benefits to their dependents, regardless of fault. All 50 states have workers’ compensation laws. You may obtain a coverage guide for your state by checking with the Department of Insurance from your area. Under an elective law, the employer may reject the act, but if it does so, it loses the three common-law defenses: assumption of risk, negligence of fellow employees and contributory negligence. Coverage is still elective in Texas.
